Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area
Chickakoo Lake isn’t just a great summer destination. Once winter hits, you’ll find 14 kms of well maintained cross-country ski trails and even skate skiing lanes to meander your way through the woods. There’s even a warming hut to help you stay out even longer.
Clifford E. Lee Natural Area
The hiking trails of Clifford E. Lee Natural Area transforms once the snow flies, becoming an incredible cross-country skiing destination. Explore the park’s 28 acres of forest and wetlands, and keep your eyes peeled for snowshoe hares, deer, coyotes, beavers and more.
Wabamun Lake Provincial Park
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the fish quit biting! Head out to Wabamun Lake with your ice fishing gear and get after some monster pike, whitefish, walleye and yellow perch. Never ice fished before? Check out the lake on Alberta’s Family Fishing Weekend (Family Day) for a chance to try the sport before you commit to buying gear.
Finding Winter Sports
Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area
With over 14 km of interconnected trails, Chickakoo Lake Recreation Area is a great place for an afternoon of mountain biking with friends and family. A healthy mix of easy, intermediate and advanced trails make this park ideal for progressing your skills.
Clifford E. Lee Natural Area

Hasse Lake Recreation Area
This beautiful 300-acre day use park is a great place to enjoy a family picnic, bird watching or take a stroll on the 3 km loop trail. There are fire pits with firewood supplied, washrooms, a playground, a hand launch and dock at the lake for boats (speed limit 12 km/hr) and fish cleaning tables.
Wabamun Lake Provincial Park
This is lakeside camping at its finest. Spend long summer days on the beach and in the water. There is a short nature trail to explore as well while you scout the area for waterfowl and other animals, plus full amenities to keep the whole family comfortable.
